When a notification opened in an off-the-grid homestay in the foothills of the Himalayas on 13th April 2021, it was like — “Office was ruining my work vacation from anywhere,” she said, while she was planning on preparing a meal along with a pot of french press coffee for #breakfastwithaview.

As it so seemed. The not-so-sleepy, yet the most comforting township of this off-the-grid location, lies at a distance of 8 miles, surrounded by lush green woods and a mountain dedicated to adventure sports like rock climbing, rappelling, etc. This place could help you find the answers, even to the questions that are still waiting to be asked.

“Come visit your new neighbors…” one of the wooden plaque by the front door proclaimed in a bold, classy calligraphy type of font, pointing to a beautiful green hill on the side. Under the plaque: “Many are living just down the road, in the valley. Working so hard to make this a city. Human habit. But before you go back to your city — relax and feel the spell that this weather can cast. Through the lawn overlooking the valley and through the window of your room — you’ll see your car in the driveway — you’ll see the beauty of the flora and fauna just as they do in the wild.” This note was followed by a couple of photos of this place in different seasons.

Here, the true nature encounters are meant to be up close and personal, with clouds often coming right up to you. While I was seconds away from typing in on my laptop, a dog stopped close to my feet. He sat right next to it and put his right hand on my foot so I couldn’t move. So, I called out his name, Bruno, but he wouldn’t budge. No, that wasn’t my dog, if you are wondering. He was a golden retriever, about 9 months old, and belonged to the owner. So, I finally bent down to pet him and scratched his neck instead. He leaned harder. And I knew there was no way of me getting back to my work anytime soon. Later, we spent some time together sitting on the porch while he held onto my hand.
